Must-Have AI Skills for Job Seekers in 2025

Today, skills are critical in addition to degrees. This requirement is also true in the field of AI.

Employers are looking for workers who can quickly drive an environment that is constantly changing with AI.

You don't need to have technical knowledge to start developing these skills.

I show you the top AI skills that employers are looking for and that you can learn.

In this article, we will see:

  • Essential AI Skills for 2025

  • Tools to Build and Enhance Your AI Skills

Essential AI Skills for 2025

1. Prompt engineering

You've probably heard of prompt engineering. The word may scare you a little, but I promise you'll be able to understand it.

I'll show you if you don't know what prompt engineering is.

  • It's like teaching a child to talk.

If the child says: "I want that" you may not know what he wants.

But if the child says: "I want that red book" you know what to give him.

Therefore, prompt engineering is finding the best way to communicate with language models (LLMs) so that they understand us better and do what we want exactly.

You can check out the more academic definition on the Learnprompting.org resources page.

"Prompt engineering is the process of crafting and refining prompts to improve the performance of generative AI models."

Here is an example of a prompt: Write a draft of a typical email to wish clients a Merry Christmas

2. Workflow automation

I'm sure that in your day-to-day life, you will perform some tasks every day: checking email, reading reports, answering complaints, or filling out reports.

The ability to detect and automate repetitive, daily tasks is a highly valued skill.

If you can integrate that automation, you will improve your daily workload and your company's efficiency.

And how do I do that? Imagine that you use Microsoft Office 365 or Google Workspace.

In any of those systems, we can apply automation.

Some tools that you can start with are Make, Zapier, or Power Automate. Once you find that automatable workflow, everything will improve.

I'll show you an example so you can see it.

  • Problem: You receive emails containing information you need to save, such as client names. Usually, you do that task manually.

  • Solution: We are going to use automation with Zapier or Make.

  • Result: Every time you receive an email with the subject "New Client", Zapier or Make will extract data. All data will be saved in a new row in your spreadsheet.

Practical example: An email with the subject: "New Client: John Doe" automatically becomes a row in your Google Sheets like this:

3. Content creation

Many times, we are required to generate information from unknown subjects. Thanks to GenAI, creating content will no longer be a problem.

If we need to create materials (marketing, HH.RR), it will now be faster and easier.

Use ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or Copilot to test these functions.

With AI tools, creating content will be a great advantage employers want us to have.

If you didn't know that you could save time at work with these skills—I encourage you to try them and see the difference.

Prompt: Create a welcome manual for new employees in the logistics area.

4. Data summarization

Creating an outline with the key points can take hours. Now, by using these AI tools, tasks will be done in seconds.

What can we summarize? Many tasks.

I'll mention a few: meetings, calls, videos, webinars, conferences.

That manual work will no longer be your only job. One of your jobs will be to choose which tool is perfect.

An example could be collecting feedback from surveys and creating a report.

Prompt: Create a summary based on the attached sales report with the 4 actions to be performed.

5. Basic Ethical understanding

This is a skill that you may not know. It might be one of the most relevant.

What about the results? Are they always reliable?

Unfortunately, the answer is negative. We cannot trust the results 100%.

This is where developing a skill focused on ethical considerations makes sense.

We must know that sometimes the results generated by AI may contain errors. It is not just errors, hallucinations, biases, or inaccuracies.

This is where we are the protagonists. We should be the verifiers.

In all cases, employers and companies will greatly value people who consider these ethical concerns.

6. Creative brainstorming

What happens when you get stuck and need help to come up with the first idea for your work or project? Well, you can spend hours or days until it comes up.

Now, AI is here to help us.

At that time, we should know how tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or Copilot can help us in those moments of creative block.

Learning to iterate and collaborate to see the result we are looking for will be the key.

In addition, the ideas can be from any field. The approaches are diverse, and the possibilities are endless. You only have to start.

For example: Give me 5 ideas for a social media campaign on sustainability.

7. Personalization

Companies are always looking for a personalized customer experience, adapting as much as possible to the client's needs.

With AI, this task becomes easier. We can handle more data simultaneously and even in real time.

A vast field of possibilities opens up. We will be able to make personalized recommendations. Offer movies/music according to user preferences, even customized training for students.

Knowing which AI tools to use at each moment will be the key.

It is about using the appropriate AI tools to achieve results.

Tools to Build and Improve Your AI Skillsdes

Now, you may ask yourself, what are the tools with which to start developing those skills?

I will mention some of them so you can start.

You will surely know some of them; I invite you to try all the tools.

These are LLMs that you can familiarize yourself with.

  • ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Claude (Prompt engineering, Content creation, data summarization, creative brainstorming, Personalization)

You can practice most of the skills we have mentioned with them.

We must learn to use the appropriate prompts depending on the results we are looking for.

  • Zapier, Make, HubSpot (Workflow Automation)

A part of the daily workflow is automation. To do this, using one of these tools will make these tasks easier for you.

Zapier is an easy-to-use tool and can be your first choice to get started.

  • CANVA, Figma, Notion AI

They can help us personalize ideas and are easy and simple to use. They have free versions to get started because access is guaranteed.

Conclusion

As you can see, these are just some skills that could change your daily routine. They are easy to use and accessible. They will improve your day-to-day work and that of your company.

Recruiters seek proactive people who adapt to change and bring these new skills.

Employers are looking for professional profiles that integrate these skills. So, maybe now is a good time to start.

Are you up for it? Don't wait—start developing your AI skills today and stay ahead of the curve.
